Proverbs 4:26 – Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
It’s difficult today with so many distractions that may stop us from paying attention to our present. Your mind is so focused on tomorrow and all that you have to get done, that your mind wonders and you stop paying attention to what you are doing.
You rush around and by rushing around you begin to do things incorrectly. Then all of a sudden, you bend over while reaching for a heavy box and you feel your back pop and then theirs an explosion of pain.
No matter how many times you wished that you had done things differently. Wished you’d lifted that box correctly. There’s no going back. What’s done is done. Now you wonder if you’ll spend the rest of your life with back pain.
Though this is a bad lesson to have to learn, once you do, you can only hope that you will slow down and pay attention to what you’re doing.
What are some common household activities that can cause a back injury? Prospirapaincare.com in their article, “18 Daily Activities That may Cause Lower Back Pain,” gives us examples of common activities that can cause back pain and how to do things differently to help prevent pain. I’ll list a few of them and then you can go to the article to find the rest. One way is sitting at your desk all day. It’s important to frequently stand up and walk around and then return to your desk. If you have breaks, take this time to step outside and walk around briefly. During your lunch, you can walk further if you choose to. Cleaning and laundry are big on the list because putting clothes in the washer, taking heavy, wet clothes out of the washer, and putting towels on high shelves are a recipe for disaster.
As the Bible verse above says, we must give careful thought to the paths for our feet and be steadfast in all our ways. Only in paying attention can you stop yourself before making a mistake and hurting yourself. It’s not easy to do, but it may help you avoid an injury. If you can’t do something without hurting yourself, think about getting yourself help especially with heavy duty jobs like yard work and deep cleaning your home. You can do this! Just turn to the one who will give you the wisdom you need to walk through your day.
