Deuteronomy 1:21 - See, the LORD your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the LORD, the God of your fathers, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Sometimes when a person suffering with emotional pain receives hit after hit from life, they become pessimistic. Their mind might think, “If I don’t expect something good to happen then I won’t be disappointed.” Right? Wrong. If all you strive for in life is to be neutral, not expecting anything good to happen, then you probably will be disappointed. So why bother to believe that this time things will be different? People are just people. We’re all imperfect and at one time or another even the person with emotional pain has disappointed someone else. However, there is a better way. If you drop your negative attitude and have the courage to believe good things can happen in your life, then you might be surprised that even if you don’t get exactly what you wanted there is joy to be found. Risk it. Believe that you will discover good things in your life. Look to make the other person happy instead of waiting for someone to make you happy. You may just find that when you drop the negative, God will place people in your life that you can be there for. In the end, as you begin to give yourself to others, you’ll discover other people stepping up to the plate for you, too.
