Needing to Make a Choice can Take Away Our Peace

John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
We reach a corner. There are three ways we can choose to go. Doubt starts bubbling up to the surface as I wonder if I’ll make the right choice. Stress builds to a point of boiling over as I wonder if I’ve taken too long to make my choice.  Fear joins the group and worries that I’ll meet a roadblock no matter which direction I choose. Even if we cross the road as fast as we can to get to the other side, peace is already a mile down the road. Peace is not something you can chase after. It only truly comes when we reach out our hands to the one who will never leave us and is always ready to pour his peace upon us. It doesn’t mean that we won’t still be in the middle of a storm. Nor does it mean fear won’t try to overtake us. And, it doesn’t mean that everything is going to end up the way we want it to. Peace will elude us until we cast down our expectations and trust God with the outcome.
