Deuteronomy 20:3-4 - He shall say: "Hear, Israel: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory." In a previous post, I talked about anxiety and how a kind word can lift us up. Today I’m going to talk about anxiety’s partner – panic.
If you’ve ever experienced a panic attack then you know just how debilitating they are. Sometimes they come on for no apparent reason, while other times it’s a result of a stressful situation. In a physical sense, in many ways a panic attack can feel like you’re having a heart attack: difficulty breathing, racing heart, chest pain, sweating and nausea. It’s important not to just brush away these symptoms. Don’t hesitate to get to your doctor or to an emergency room to check it out. Read more about the symptoms of a panic attack and panic disorder along with some helpful tips on how to cope with them from the link below. For many years I suffered from this affliction. Once anxiety had a chance to put its foot in my door, it quickly moved in and grew into a full blown panic attack. Sometimes it was so bad I could hardly move, and I didn’t want to leave the “safety” of my chair. And if it hit when I was out and about, all I could think about was getting home. So how do I now find victory over my anxiety? By focusing on Bible verses like those above. Today’s verses talk about panic taking us out onto the battle field. I have to remember that it’s not a battle fought on the outside, but one that is raging on the inside where the enemy is myself. God urges us to not be fainthearted or panic, but to believe he can bring us to victory over our circumstances and our anxiety. To leave a comment just click on the blue "comments" below.
