Don’t Become Complacent or You Might Lose Everything You Have

Job 12:10 – In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
There are things in our lives that we believe will never be taken from us. And we become complacent. Then we wake up one morning and they’re gone.

  1. You have this great job and look forward to getting up every morning to go to work, and there’s never a worry to pay your bills. In fact, you become complacent thinking things will never change. Then, something like COVID-19 comes along and the doors to the business you work at are closed. Maybe permanently. And now you don’t have the money to pay your bills even with unemployment.

  1. We have these close friends. You do almost everything together and have a great time. And you start to take it for granted that they’ll always be around. Then, one morning you wake up and find out that your friend has been diagnosed with cancer. Stage 4. In a short time, that friend that you took for granted, who you believed you’d be friends with for life, well, that friend is soon gone.

  1. But you can also lose a good friend because of an argument. You thought that you were on the same page, but then they become distant, because their marriage is over. COVID-19 also took their jobs and the financial ruin destroyed the happiness they had. Fighting becomes the norm and then one day, one of them walks out the door and never comes back and your good friend is left with nothing.

  1. We have an abundance of food on our tables every day. We become complacent that we can just run to the grocery store to buy more food. Then, we wake up one morning and COVID-19 has caused a panic and people begin to hoard food and other essentials. Soon there are few things left and you struggle to find enough food to buy for your family.

  1. Taking in a deep breath, you step outside to enjoy a nice day. Then one day you’re asked to wear a mask. For those of us who are claustrophobic it’s difficult. Also, you obey the rule to wear a mask and you go to the store and find only a handful of people wearing a mask. You question if you really need that mask but decide to wear it anyway because though it’s tough for some to use, it does provide you with more confidence.

According to elitedaily.com in their article, “Why Being Complacent Will Ruin Your Life,” one of the worst areas where complacency really takes its toll is in our relationships. Just as I shared above all it takes is a bad argument to separate the best of friends. Yet, all it takes is being willing to go beyond the argument and seek forgiveness to renew your friendships instead of losing them. Also, being complacent at your job can get you stuck in a rut and cause you to never obtain a better job. It can cause you to stop trying harder and seeking a better position. Another area of complacency is our health. We can believe we’ll always be healthy and ignore signs that we are sick. Just as I said above that friend of yours who has cancer may have caught it in time if they had been paying attention to the signs instead of believing it could never touch them.

Life is in the hand of God and it is he who gives us breath, whether it’s wearing a mask or taking our final breath, it is God who holds our life in his hands.
